But here at Black Chalk, we think there’s something extra special about our little corner of Hampshire. We’re proud to call the Test Valley home and with so much to discover, we thought we’d share our tips on where to go and what to see during your stay.

2. Explore the Test Way on Foot

Just steps from our vineyard lies the Test Way, one of Hampshire’s most scenic walking routes. This 44-mile trail follows the River Test through ancient woodland, wildflower meadows, and picture perfect villages. Explore a shorter segment of The Test Way as well as the views from our stunning vineyards when you book onto a Black Chalk self-guided walking tour.

3. Pick Up a Seasonal Bouquet from Featherstone Flowers

A short drive away, our friends at Featherstone Flowers grow seasonal, sustainable blooms in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. They run onsite workshops + events in their beautiful Grade II listed Tithe Barn.


Local Love: Featherstone’s are the trusted flowers suppliers to our Black Chalk Tasting Room and to our onsite events and private hire.






4. Sip + Learn about Speciality Coffee at Moon Roast

Coffee connoisseurs, rejoice! Stop by Moon Roast, a family-run roastery set in a converted barn just outside Alresford. Their ethically sourced beans and small-batch roasting make for the perfect take away flat white, or bag of beans to take home. They also run tours of their roastery on selected dates.


Pair It With: Join us for Brunch at Black Chalk and enjoy a bottle of Black Chalk Classic Sparkling wine with a pastry and a speciality Moon Roast coffee for an easy brunch pairing.





5. Fish on the River Test

Enjoy a day’s fishing on the world famous River Test. The Golden Pond Fishery is just a 5 minute walk away from Black Chalk Wine. This fishery is great for both beginner and more experienced anglers. The one acre lake has 16 well spaced swims, including a swim suitable for wheelchairs.


Further afield, the Broadlands Estate is renowned for the quality of its trout and salmon fishing. This private estate is one of the longest continuous stretches of prime chalk stream fishing and is where Prince Charles caught his first fish as a teenager.

8. Explore Stockbridge + dine at The Grosvenor

9. Visit Winchester

The beautiful city of Winchester has much to offer for an afternoon excursion or day trip. Its pedestrianised city streets are lined with independent shops and cafes, but the main attraction is Winchester's rich history. Visit the medieval Winchester Cathedral, with its 17th-century Morley Library.
